Is Pro a subscription or a one-time purchase?+
One-time. You pay $49.69 once and own it for life. There is no monthly bill, no renewal, no expiry. Lifetime updates, the dead-man clause, and every personal-use feature we ship in the future are included. Personal Pro will never become a subscription.
Can I upgrade from Free to Pro without losing any data?+
Yes. The ~/.recall/ directory is identical between tiers. Paying the license unlocks features; it does not migrate data.
What payment methods do you accept?+
Stripe, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Stripe handles global tax as our payment processor. No crypto at launch.
Can I use one license on multiple machines?+
Yes, up to three machines you personally control (laptop, desktop, travel machine). Activation records a one-way SHA-256 hash of each machine so re-activating on the same machine is free. Beyond three machines, activation is rejected. Enterprise seats are explicitly counted per the contract.
How do you prevent someone from sharing their license key?+
We track activations per license key and review abuse manually. Each license is meant for one user across their personal machines. Once activated, the key works offline forever. Enterprise seats are counted explicitly on the team server.
Is my session data safe? Where does it live?+
Every session, every note, every tag lives on your own machine under ~/.recall/. The daemon binds to 127.0.0.1 only, so even devices on your own network cannot reach it. Nothing leaves silently: apart from a daily license-revocation check (after Pro activation) and an optional install ping you can decline at install time, every outbound call is one you trigger or opt into. No analytics, no account. API keys or secrets you paste into a Claude Code terminal are auto-redacted before anything touches the index.
What if Anthropic ships this natively in Claude Code?+
Our moat is not the indexing. It is the context re-injection, tags, notes, team sharing, cross-AI support, MCP server, and the fact that your data stays local forever. Anthropic cannot build the "even if we disappear" promise because they are a cloud company. If they do ship something and it is better than ours, your Pro license still works offline forever.
