Your Pro license validates against our server exactly once, at activation. After that, Recall works offline forever. If clauderecall.com ever disappears, every existing license stays valid. We'll publish the validation secret if we ever shut down, so you're never stranded.
Yes. The ~/.recall/ directory is identical between tiers. Paying the license unlocks features; it does not migrate data.
Stripe, Apple Pay, and Google Pay via LemonSqueezy (our Merchant of Record, so they handle global tax and we do not have to). No crypto at launch.
Yes. The license is per-user, not per-machine. Use it on your laptop, your desktop, and your travel machine. Enterprise seats are explicitly counted.
License keys are user-bound and hardware-attested at activation. Your key checks against a stable machine fingerprint on first run, and once activated it stays offline forever. Sharing a single key across multiple unrelated installs invalidates it. Enterprise seats are counted explicitly on the team server.
Every session, every note, every tag lives on your own machine under ~/.recall/. The daemon binds to 127.0.0.1 only, so even devices on your own network cannot reach it. There is no telemetry, no analytics, no account. API keys or secrets you paste into a Claude Code terminal are auto-redacted before anything touches the index. We cannot see your sessions because we do not ship the code that would phone home.
Our moat is not the indexing. It is the context re-injection, tags, notes, team sharing, cross-AI support, MCP server, and the fact that your data stays local forever. Anthropic cannot build the "even if we disappear" promise because they are a cloud company. If they do ship something and it is better than ours, your Pro license still works offline forever.
